Getting work done when you just can’t distract the kids

When you work at home, one of the biggest challenges you can keep the kids busy. There will be days when the usual tactics will not distract them, but just need to work a little. It may be time to do something that children do not wait.

Some work at home jobs and companies can not require you to be truly at home. Can you bring a laptop or briefcase and work at the park, library or a fast food restaurant? You still have to keep a watchful eye on children, but they will have the opportunity to release this stored energy.

What about the things you can do with their children at home while working? Older children may be able to help with parts of their work, knowing that this will free you to play with them before.

Other times you may need to take advantage of any flexibility in the hours of office work or work at home business will allow. Play! Dance with them, play a board game, painting … just find something fun to do with them for a while. Do not make a habit of this, or your child generally cooperative can soon expect to leave everything to play with them, but there are times when to make exceptions to their office hours.

Not all work at home parents can do this, of course. Some jobs require fixed hours. In that case, ask someone you can call for help. This has to be another adult. Even having an older child from the neighborhood come to play may be enough for you to do your job.

If you often have problems with children who need your attention while you are trying to work, it may be time to reassess their office hours. needs of children change as they grow, so that the program worked perfectly for your toddler can not work now.

Remind yourself as often as necessary why they decided to work at home in the first place. It’s easy to get your priorities mixed when you have a schedule to keep, deadlines to meet, etc, but your children need you too. Keep them high on their priorities and let them know how much they mean to you.
